Siri AI Expands to French, Japanese and Korean in iOS 27.2

Siri AI Expands to French, Japanese and Korean in iOS 27.2

Apple has pushed Siri AI to five new languages with its 27.2 software updates, which began rolling out today. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish join English, so millions more people can now talk to the rebuilt assistant in their own language.

The update also gives Siri AI a memory of past chats and access to more of your personal information. Apple still labels the assistant a beta, and it is not yet available in the European Union.

Siri AI Language Support Grows

Siri AI launched last month with iOS 27 as a full rethink of Apple’s assistant. Until now it worked only in English. With the 27.2 releases for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Vision Pro, five more languages are switched on.

Apple says more are coming before the end of 2026. Traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese are next on the list.

Apple says it is working with EU regulators to find a path forward. For now, Siri AI is unavailable on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch in EU countries.

What Else Is New in the Siri AI Update

Language is not the only change. The iOS 27.2 release notes list several upgrades that make the assistant feel less forgetful and more useful day to day.

  • Conversation recall: Siri AI can remember what it told you before, such as restaurants it suggested last week.
  • More personal context: it can now use photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees and your voicemails.
  • Better search results: answers can draw more heavily on your Safari history and Reading List.
  • Excluded Apps: one setting lets you choose which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can reach.
  • Granular text selection: you can copy just the part of a Siri answer that you need.

Apple Watch owners get a speed boost too. Apple says watchOS 27.2 delivers faster Siri AI responses than before.

How Siri AI Handles Your Personal Data

Siri AI is built on Apple Intelligence and pulls from your messages, email, photos and more to answer questions about your own life. Apple says it does this without giving up user privacy.

The new Excluded Apps setting matters here. If you do not want the assistant reading a particular app, you can block it in one place instead of hunting through menus.

Some features that rely on server-side models also carry daily usage limits. Apple notes that the limits can vary by feature, request complexity and system demand, and that expanded access may cost money in the future.

What This Means for You

If you speak one of the new languages, the practical steps are simple. Your device needs to be Apple Intelligence-ready and set to a supported language.

  1. Open Settings, then General, then Software Update, and install version 27.2.
  2. Set your device and Siri language to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese or Spanish.
  3. Check the Excluded Apps setting and decide which apps Siri AI should not see.
  4. Try asking about something from an earlier chat to test the new conversation memory.

Siri AI works on all iPhone 16 models and later, plus the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Older phones will not get it, and children under 13 cannot use it.

If you live in the EU, nothing changes yet. You will have to wait for Apple and regulators to reach an agreement before the assistant arrives there.

Why Apple Is Moving Quickly

The expansion comes only weeks after launch, which shows how fast Apple wants to close the gap with rival chatbots. Assistants from OpenAI, Google and Anthropic already work in dozens of languages, so English-only support was a clear weakness.

Adding five languages in one update widens the audience in markets like Japan, Korea and Brazil, where iPhones are popular. It also sets up the next wave in December. You can read more about the assistant’s launch hardware in our Apple HomeView coverage.

Apple’s plans in other regions are still shifting. Our earlier report on Apple Intelligence China explains why mainland China is excluded for now. For more news like this, browse our AI news section.

The beta label is worth remembering. Features, accuracy and language quality can still change as Apple collects feedback, so expect rough edges in the new languages at first.

Conclusion

Siri AI now speaks six languages, remembers past conversations and reaches deeper into your personal data, all within weeks of launch. If you use one of the new languages, install iOS 27.2 and try it, and keep an eye out for four more languages by the end of the year.
